What’s Going on with SHINee Lately?

Is it just me, or is anyone creeped out by some of the stuff SHINee has been doing lately? pole dancing, that ↑ . *Shudders*

I know the pedo jokes are old, but I’m not joking this time. Some of this stuff is truly borderline inappropriate.

SHINee has always been marketed as young and innocent, and that’s fine. I thought the boys were charming and cute in their “Replay” days; like schoolboys with harmless crushes on their teachers or something. However nowadays, the innocence image is still there, yet it’s laced with like a forbidden sexual fantasy or something now. IDK, I’m uncomfortable even thinking about it.

It’s true that the boys aren’t that young, and as a boyband, they’re gonna be sexualized at some point. Tbh, I wouldn’t even be as bothered if it was just a straightforward take-off-your-shirt-thrust-your-hips thing (I’d squick me out, but I’d get over it). What really icks me is that SHINee is continually portrayed as young and innocent in a virginal way, yet objects of sexual fantasy.

So much crap is considered “not okay” in Korea, yet stuff like this is? Okay, you can argue that Korea has a different culture, and I can’t judge with my western bias. However, I really don’t know how many ways half dressed boys lying in an unmade bed can be interpreted.

I have no moral high horse to stand on, but I find all this a bit ethically questionable. Am I taking this too seriously? Maybe, but that doesn’t change how I feel. For once, fandom is truly srs bizness, and not in a good way.

Bottom line: I’m really disappointed in how SM is handling SHINee.

Jian Bing Guo Zi

Also known as, the best fucking thing you will ever put in you mouth (dirty euphemisms withstanding.)

For those of you who didn’t grow up northern Chinese (represent!), jian bing guo zi this savory crepe thing that’s a staple of street foods there. Here’s a video on how it’s made. I think I just foodgasmed.

All throughout grade school, whenever I was asked the question, “what’s your favorite food?,” I always said “pizza,” when I felt the need to assimilate and conform, or “fried rice” when I was in the mood to “embrace my heritage.” However, all of that is a big fat stinkin’ lie. This is my favorite food ever. By far. Not even a question.

The sad thing is, I haven’t had a properly made jbgz since I visited China five years ago o__O. Last weekend, I went to a Chinese restaurant on the promise of this heavenly delicacy, however, I was so fucked over. The crepe was way too dry and thick, and there wasn’t enough sauce on the inside. Most upsetting, they copped out and used the fried Chinese breadsticks instead of fried wonton wrappers. Fuck that shit. No.

Why am I suddenly posting this now? Cuz I felt like it, and also cuz I’m going to China and Taiwan in this winter (omg!!), and this is probably what I’m looking forward to the most. If you think that’s ridiculous or sad, then you obviously have never tried one of these things.

 

Backstreet’s Back (All Right!!!)

Coming out of impromptu hiatus to share alsdkjfalskdjf news, but first an oblig “I feel old” comment^^.

Okay, with that out of the way, according to the always reliable Perez, BSB is coming out with a new single sometime this month!!!! Whut? OSM!!!!!!

Sorry Asians, but BSB will forever be the HBIC of boybands past, now, and future. I love my fobs don’t get me wrong, but BSB was my first love, and they are still the mutherfucker boyband of all boybands bitches!!!!  N’Sync fans gtfo! Ha, ha, I’m only kidding (sort of) but seriously, good times!

Okay, it’s been a while, and I can’t say I’ve followed their every move for the past few years. I know Kevin left and a few of them have been in and out of rehab :S, but they’ve been touring so I guess it’s not a true comeback or anything. As much as I love Flo Rida and Lady GaGa, I have to say that the shiz now<<<<<<<the shiz then.

Question for anyone who still reads my blog– Who was your fave member, and what was your fave song? Mine’s Brian (ngl, I only liked him best back then cuz I thought he was the cutest), and this is definitely my fave bsb song, and probably my favorite pop song of all time

Still gonna be hiatusing probably. Tbh, Kpop isn’t doing it for me atm. Haven’t even heard 2ne1’s new album yet : | Need to catch up….

 

Wonder Girls; Nobody English Version

All right, of their three hook songs, “Nobody” is actually my least favorite. Personally, I wish they made their first single “Tell Me” but whatevs. Still, I like the song– more then the Korean version for sure. Kpop has dominated my playlists for so long that I sometimes forget how nice it is to actually be able to understand the lyrics ^__^

As I was listening to this, I realized that if Wonder Girls continue down this path, they’re destined to be linked with teenyboppers forever. That’s not necessarily a bad thing cuz 12 year old American fangirls are as fierce as heck. However, I hope they realize that universal love they experienced in Korea is never gonna happen here. I’m sure they’re keeping expectations low, but it must be hard to go from being a nation’s little sisters to– well, nobodies with just a flight across the Pacific.

A/n not really related, but since I’m too adhd to be able to keep posts on topic– I’m just gonna accept the 30984209 bajillion girl groups invading Kpop atm. In the near future, I will be cheering on the WGs in the US (but also sekkritly hoping they fail enough so they make a Korean comeback soon^^), grudgingly admiring 2NE1 for their very hyped but very existent talent, hatin’ on the trainwreck that is 4Minute, and enjoying watching SNSD obliterate the competition with their awesomeness. SuJu who? I don’t even care.

Okay.

This video is bit wtfery. On the one hand, I love the song, and the military outfits, and omg legs^^. All of them, especially Sunny, Tae, and Sooyoung look gorgeous and so mature, so that’s definitely a plus. On the other hand, parts of this video look a bit amateur and girls gone wild tbth. The whole thing just lacks coherency. Idg why they’re talking about genies while wearing military outfits while clubbing then jumping out of cakes, etc., etc.

I however do get that that I’m a girl, and therefore took the time to think about these things. I’m sure their core audience won’t get much thinking done past LEGS!!! and BOOBS!!! so it’s all good XDD.

A/n A bit off topic, but sooooo excited for MuBank tonight!! Boy’s Generation? I’m so there^^

A/n pt. 2 I was too lazy to make a post on it, but LaLaLa was epic!!!! I actually really liked that show before, and was ttly laksdfjjlkds when I heard SJ/SNSD were gonna be on T__T. Both groups rocked it, but imo SNSD did an especially wonderful job ♥. Their “Sorry Sorry” was one of my favorite covers of the song, and I’m glad they were able to showoff their very underrated singing talent.
