Alkfjssaldfjsdklfj I’ve been in such a Chinese music drought lately. Part of is is because I’ve been too distracted by the Korean, part of it is because I’m too lazy to look these days, and the largest part is probably just that I’m not that interested atm. Except, I am interested, I’m just lazy. So basically, yeah. I randomly downloaded Will Pan’s newest cuz I was bored, but it actually is turning out to be pretty fantastic in a completely unoriginal, generically pleasant way. This was a woo-is-me whine/rant fest, but I’m turning it into an impromptu album review
Oh but before I get to that, does anyone have any Chinese music recommendations? Or recommendations in general? I’m in a new music mood and I’ll be grateful for anything you wanna share w/ me <3<3<3
urnobody911’s channel @ youtube has all the songs; just search “Wilbur Pan” if you wanna check them out.
Sorry about the pinyin titles. I haven’t found translations anywhere…
Shuang Ren Wu This is the song with the uber expensive MV w/ Lee Da Hae and Rain’s director. I don’t really like the song, but the mv is pretty. In case you were wondering, the answer is yes. Everything about the music video is totally stereotypical Korean.
Xian Liang Fa Xi This song is pretty sexy. It sounds very boyband, but you know I like that stuff.
Wu Zhong Li You know what I just realized? On like 95% of all Asian pop albums, the third song is the piano ballad. I’m a complete hypocrite because although I despise K-ballads for the most part, I absolutely love Cpop ballads^^. One of the most played playlists on my ipod is titled “Sappy Chinese Love Ballads” and it’s chalked full of stuff like “Kiss Goodbye” and “Tong Hua.” I know right? Anyways, song is very, very, very generic KTV material, but it’s pretty apparent I love that stuff, so I give the song a thumbs up.
Be with You (Ft. Akon) I’ve already written about this song here so I won’t elaborate. The song totally gets catchier the more I listen ^__^
Ai De Ge Aside from the epic! piano ballad, there’s always also the sweet poppy! ballad, and this is it. Will does do his share of western r&b stuff, but don’t expect most of this album to be that. Tbh, I don’t have that much to say about any of these songs cuz they’re all so generic cpop. Basically, if you like that sound, you’ll like this. I happen to love the cliche so it’s all good.
Ji Wu Chu Zu The guitar ballad. This one’s not the best.
Zi Wo Yi Shi Fast song with some rap. Sounds like Show Luo, but higher quality. Lol, I realize now I’m mostly just telling you what each of these songs are instead of what I think about them XDD
Qin Ai De Mid tempo. Eww @ the kids singing. Why do Chinese artists feel compelled to do that?? Totally ruins the song.
Everytime’s I’m not exactly sure what the song’s title is so I’m going with the yesasia version. IDK, good?
Zen Me Zhe This sounds like a Jay Chous song. Okay, this doesn’t actually tell you anything cuz Will sounds like Jay, who sounds like Leehom, who sounds like David, who sounds like etc. etc. etc. I think his mom and dad are in this. Will thinks he’s a great rapper, and if you do too, this one’s for you.
Don’t Wanna Say Goodbye R&B track. I don’t know if I like this or not. This will probably be something I’ll listen too as background, so I may never know.
Basically, if you like generic cpop, you’ll like this. After the Akon song, I thought he was different than the typical Taiwanese crooner, but I was wrong. *Shrugs* It’s not a problem, I mean, none of the songs are especially annoying, and Will Pan has the nice, typical Taiwanese male singer voice. Really, I’m not all that picky about music. If it sounds nice, I’ll like it. I’m not all about being experiment and innovative. I like what I like, and if what I listen to all happen to sound pretty similar, then so be it.
Oh one thing to note– Jeremy Ji, who I sufficiently pimped earlier is a major producer on this. Personally I like Blue J better, but no doubt Wilbur is the better singer.
