S.H.E.

Yippie! This is like the ultimate treat for my Cpop deprived self! I have no idea what this award is, but so many artists showed up, so it must be pretty legit. Alsdjflsdkj, I had the hardest time collecting performances, so if you have more links to share, or happen to know where I can watch the full show, I will give my undying love to you forevers!!

Leehom; Xin.Tiao. How long has it been since I’ve seen a Leehom performance? Too damn long!! Lol @ the technical difficulty in the begining. Leehom is so squishable when he’s like, “should we do it one more time?” Alsjdfjlkdfslk I cannot love this guy anymore than I do!!! I think it goes without saying that his singing was amazing as always^^^He always sings his songs differently each time he performs, and he’s so expressive!! ♥♥♥X1000000!!!!!!!

Jason Zhang Jie; 2008 Taiwan/HK Top Songs Medley Okay, I don’t know who Jason Zhang is, judging by the screams, he’s hella popular in China atm. Anyways, I loved this performance! He basically sings a line or two from the most popular songs of HK/Taiwan of the past year. So many of my faves on the list! Aklsadjfsld, I need to learn more about this boy! He’s cute, he can sing, what else is there to ask for????

BoBo; 2008 Mainland Top Songs Medley | If Okay, I’m only familar with BoBo by name, but I do know they are the most popular group in China right now. Purely judging by their voice/looks/way they look at one another, I’d say they’re pretty deserving XDD. Anyways, I’m sort of embarrassed that I pretty much recognized all the songs/artists from the Taiwan/HK list, but I know almost no one on this list o___O. Lol at all the Olympic propaganada music that managed to get on the list though T__T. As far as their other song, it’s pretty typical Cpop, but again, cute+nice voices = me relatively interested.

Fahrenheit; Xin Wo Kind of a side note, but I hate those stupid sponsor mics; the random plast strip is really distracting ^__^ Anyways, it’s been a long time since I’ve seen FRH perform this song. Eh, not too bad I guess.

Mayday; Ni Bu Shi Zhen Zheng De Kuai Le Ahhh, this has got to be one of my fave songs from PotDA!!! I don’t normally watch Mayday live performances, cuz to be honest, I think they sound a lot better on the CD, but I really liked this performance! I don’t really listen to that much rock music, but it’s fun watching these boys play the guitar, bass and drums!

Jam Hsiao; Wang Zi De Xin Yi Okay question: When did Jam Hsiao get hot? I remember back when he was just this super awkward kid who couldn’t say more than three words at once, but now he’s all, “look at me, I sing rock and wear tight pants” Whatever, love this Jam 2394293X more!!

S.H.E; Miss Universe The thing I love about S.H.E. the most is that they’re always so perky! They’re one of the few performers that actually have coreography, and I always feel like bopping along whenever I watch them perfrom this song!

Show Luo; Hot Shot Speaking of  coreography, here’s the supposed dance king of Asia ;___; Although I don’t love the song, I have to admit that for a Chinese guy, he’s pretty good at dancing! Lol, j/k j/k, I really do love him to bits!

Top Combine; Cotton Candy First off, I’m like really freaked out by how skinny they are o__O. I know I’m not “allowed” to say this, but wheneve I watch them, I can’t help but think, “Korean boyband ripoff.” IDK, song is exactly how you’d imagine a song called “Cotton Candy” would sound….

Oh yeah, list of winners in case you care ; ))))

Two seconds after this photo was taken, Jay and Leehom proceeded to pummel each other with those metal balls they were holding.

Only fair to show a little list love to Cpop. I’m guilty of contributing to most of these. Just thought I’d put that out there.

6. Show and his string of (rumored) ex girlfriends. He says he values his privacy, yet somehow, names like Jolin, Selina, and Makiyo are worked into every show he appears on.

5. S.H.E. is ugly. I hear this all the time, but I don’t get it at all. I think they’re gorgeous, and not in an inner beauty kinda way that no one cares about. No, I mean in a if-I-were-a-lesbian-or-a-dude,-I-would-hit-that kinda way.

4. Wu Chun’s love life. Has anyone else noticed this? He’s been romantically rumored to every single female costar he’s worked with. Ariel, ELLA, Angela, Charlene. Does this guy possess some raw, pheromonal magnetism which causes no female to be able to resist him? Personally, I think it’s because he’s such a powerful and believable actor, they’re all drawn to his immense talent~.

3. The Leehom ResumeIf I say the words “SAT,” “languages,” and “instruments,” and you automatically think of a certain Taiwanese American pop star, then you know what I’m talking about. If not, go to any Asian music forum, say something like, “I so don’t get what’s the big deal with this guy,” and I’m sure people would be more then happy to indoctrinate you in Leehomism.

2. Fahrenheit can’t sing/they’re improving/they still suck/shut up/you shut up.Okay, soooooo guilty of this one. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a conversation about Fahrenheit where their talent level wasn’t brought up. It could be like person 1 goes, “Oh, I like the shirt Jiro is wearing in this photoshoot,” and then person 2 goes, “yeah? too bad he can’t sing or act!!!” I do the exact same thing//. What the heck is up with that?

1. Jay v. LeehomI’m not the only one who loves comparisons, because even after all these years, this is still a favorite pastime of anyone who cares about Chinese music. Never mind the fans, reporters always find a way to bring up the other person. “So Jay, I noticed you are converting oxygen to carbon dioxide. How do you think your respiration rate compares with Leehom?” I have no comment cuz I don’t listen to Jay as much as Leehom. Oh wait, I guess I just made my choice…

Whoa, I’m just on a posting rampage o__O. It’s cloudy and cold outside, and I have to work tomorrow, so what better way to spend a Sunday then tucked away in bed with my always reliable companion, the laptop? Wow, I’m just a ball of excitement, aren’t I? Whatevs, it’s far too cold for me to care about others judging me.

I haven’t seen or heard anything by SHE in a while, so today I decided to youtube them, and discovered that they’ve been quite busy over the holidays. This was from a few days ago when they won some award in Hong Kong. They perform “Miss Universe” and then a bit of “Zhong Guo Hua” and “Superstar.” I thought they did a great job, and looked beyond gorgeous in black *___*.

Listening to some of their old songs suddenly made me remember that they’ve released nine studio albums. That’s an impressive feat for anyone, but almost unheard of for female idol groups. Even though the novelty has worn off, their popularity doesn’t seem to be diminishing at all^^. Good for them, they totally deserve it.

Ha Ha, I’ve promised myself to do this post since forever and I’m finally getting around to it. Actually, the reason I’ve procrastinated so long is because I really don’t know who I should talk about. I listen to a more diverse group of artists in Cpop v. Kpop, but I don’t obsesses over many of them, and some I just put on as background noise without really paying attention. This isn’t comprehensive of everything I listen to, cuz I’d be dead before I could finish that list (not because I listen to that many artist, but it’s taken me two weeks to write about these nine people/groups, so you can do the math…) I’ve decided to just write about the most well known peoples in Cpop right now. No bands, because they’re partly about vocals and partly about instruments, so it’s sort of a different category (plus I’m lazy, plus I only listen to like three bands) and only Taiwan based artists, (again, lazy and) because I can actually find live performances for them.

I’ll start with the four biggies of Cpop right now. IMO, these four are the most well known, but more importantly, most talented Mandarin male soloists on the market today. All four of them do the majority of their own writing, including everything from lyrics to compositions, but since this is a vocal post, I’ll refrain from commenting on that (not like I know enough about music to say anything worthwhile anyway ;___;). They’re all amazing, so no need to rank them. Ordered by personal preference I guess.

Shinee and SHE have about as much in common as apples and kangaroos. But they both released new stuff the last few days so I’ll just stick them in one post here.

SHE released the mv for ‘Silence’ which stars Selina and Ethan Yuan of ‘Fated to Love You’ fame. Selina wrote the lyrics for the song, which is nice, but kind of a copout compared to artists that write, compose and arrange. This applies to all idol groups who don’t write their own music– while contributing anything is great, lyric writing doesn’t exactly require the same musical prowess as composing or arranging. Sometimes I think its all just a marketing gimmick as if to say, “Hey look at this!!! our artists did something other than just stand there and look pretty. See!!! Musical talent” Whatever, they are idol artists so I don’t really care if they write their own music or not. Obviously, I’d love it if they could, but hyping lyric writing is annoying ;_____;. Anyways, the mv is another one of those ’story’ pieces about love and angst and pain and whatever. Nothing special in comparison to the 40439543958 predecessor mvs about the exact same thing. SHE did look really pretty though, but Ethan needs to lose the beard.

Shinee OTOH, has yet to make any pretenses about being true musicians or whatever. They just sing and dance, and honestly, I prefer it that way. ‘Amigo‘ is one of three new songs on their repackaged album (grr… repackaged albums totally piss me off cause its just a way to screw loyal fans into dishing out more $$ : S). The song is good, I guess, but I agree with everyone else that it’s not really appropriate for them to be singing these lyrics at their age. I know I make a lot of pedophile jokes and all, but seriously, they are almost all underage and SM has plenty of older talent that can do the sexy, seductive stuff. I’m not gonna get all Scarlet Letter or anything, but I just don’t think 15/16 year old boys should be selling this kind of image. What I liked about Shinee was that their image was contemporary and original, while still being age appropriate. But this is like Mirotic-lite and I so don’t dig it.

Ok, I gonna stop writing cause it seems like I’m in a bad mood and that’s making my posts filled with bitchy bias. More later I guess…
