Epik High

Part 2 |  Part 3

Not kidding– I literally laughed out loud so many times watching this. I’m warning you, DO NOT watch in a public place cuz it’s very awkward trying to explain to others why you are howling like a monkey in front a computer screen o__O

Anyways, they’re interviewed by this cute, if not a little ditzy, girl. Pretty much they spend the whole time either subtly making fun of her, or overtly making fun of each other.

A few highlights:

The interview girl tells EH that they look more handsome since the last time she saw them, then she asked/implied about whether it’s cuz all of them are in love. Tablo responds, “it could be that, or it could be that I’m covering half my face.” He then says that he’s wearing sunglasses cuz he got a black eye while shooting a commercial, and that he doesn’t really like wearing sunglasses in doors cuz it makes him look arrogant. I seriously don’t understand why she would say this, but she says something like, “I think that’s a Korean culture thing cuz everyone in the States wears sunglasses.” So then, Tablo’s like, “That is true. When the sun’s out.” OMG, I’m sorry, but I laughed so hard. She is really very pretty, so it is okay…

Tablo talks about how if their girlfriends only cared about looks, they wouldn’t have gone out with any of them in the first place. The interview girl’s like, “Why? You are all very good looking” but Tablo’s like, no actually we’re not. He than concedes that MYK’s “kinda good looking” while Tukutz and Mithra nod approvingly. Tablo says Mithra looks like a bear, and Mithra does this like pawing action with a glottal sound. IDEK, I was laughing so hard I like couldn’t breathe, but it gets better. Tablo then says that Tukutz looks like a Tibetan fox (do you read their blog?? if you do than you know where this is from!). You’ll have to watch the clip to know why it’s so funny, but like Tablo is like so srs about it. Tukutz, Tibetan fox: to me there is no difference XD

They talk about where they want to travel in the world. Tukutz says that he really wants to go to the Empire State Building, especially since last time he was there, he couldn’t go to the top cuz Mithra was afraid of heights. MYK says he wants to visit Amsterdam. His exact quote is, “I went there before. They have really….” and Tablo chimes in with “good coffee.” MYK says next time, he’ll definitely try the “coffee.” Seems to me like he already enjoys coffee quite a bit . In fact, I’d say he probably had a cup or two of coffee right before this interview^^. Of course the girl doesn’t pick up on any of this, and that makes it 1000X more hilarious.

BLOHYUK! They take questions from fans, and one of them asks Tablo if he’s related to Eunhyuk. First off for all you shippers out there, Tablo refers to Eunhyuk as “Eunhyukie,” which is just so beyond cute. Anyways, Tablo says he gets asked this a lot, and even Eunhyuk himself says it. Then he tells that story about how Epik High switched places with SuJu at that award show a few years back. Who else wants more Epik Junior interaction? *raises hand*

She asks them what they’d do it they weren’t musicians. MYK says he would be a figure skater, and I really can’t tell if he’s being facetious. Mithra says he would be a wrestler, and Tablo’s like, “we don’t need to explain anymore.” Tablo says he wants to be a zookeeper or something. He’s like so passionate about it, IDEK. Finally, Tukutz says he’s always wanted to be one of those people that waves the flashlights on runways.

The whole thing is half English half Korean, but it’s all subbed so go watch it! Seriously, these guys need their own show. Aside from the hilarity, they actually say some stuff about their music and the album as well that worth listening to. Even if you don’t like Epik High, I guarantee this will entertain you :)

Have you seen it yet?

Originally, I was pretty meh on their album, but after watching them perform– whollyshitsoawesome!!! Even if you’re a casual fan, I suggest you check it out (subbed for us Korean wannabes international fans). Personally, I liked the songs like 100000X more when I watched them perform it live. They do a piano version of “Map the Soul” in English which was really cool, and I also really liked their song “Scenario” which features some serious Mirtha rapping. I know everyone goes on and on about Tablo,  but shutout to Mirtha, who is a seriously intense rapper. They did little ments in between and it was totally hilarious; such dorks the bunch of them : D. Really, I’m about as casual of a fan as they come, and I seriously enjoyed the whole thing.

Okay, I did breakdown and get their album on itunes, but I’m sort of worried that I didn’t altogether buy it for the right reasons. IDK, like I really, really liked their performance, and the songs are legit good, but I seriously don’t know if Map The Soul is something I’d listen to again and again. However, these guys just seem so genuine, and awesome, and I really want them to succeed, but in a way I now feel reverse guilt cuz my intentions were so not pure. Am I crazy? Do you get where I’m coming from?

Check it in HD from their YouTube channel.

Okay, I’m not gonna lie, Epik High is not my favorite thing ever. Sure, I like them, cuz they’re a natural part of the Kpop rotation. However, as someone who’s knowledge of hip-hop doesn’t extend beyond Soulja Boy, there’s just no way I can claim to be all alsdkflsdkj over a Korean hip-hop group. I like pop music, and I don’t know Korean, and those two facts sort of don’t map well to calling myself a true EH fan.

I checked out their new MV because well, everyone else is doing it, and with everything they’ve been doing, I’m curious about their new image. The first time I watched it, I hated it. Epik High is known for their creativity in music videos, but I thought it was garish without a point. However, I watched it again, and it felt a lot more natural the second time around. They’ve definitely dropped some of that pop sound they acquired in the past, but not gonna lie, I actually liked that stuff. However, if this is the music they really want to make, kudos to them for having the balls to do it. I think I’ll probably dig it even more once I see them perform it live and figure out what they lyrics are saying. When is comeback exactly?

Last thing. This isn’t a dig at the international fans who enjoy their musc (I’m including myself in here), but I’m seriously wondering. If you don’t understand what they are saying, isn’t it just like listening to a couple of guys speak Korean really, really fast with a backbeat? Translations can only do so much. I feel like a huge part of EH’s musical appeal lies in their lyrics, and we’re all missing out on it. IDK, maybe I’m just shallow and missing something. Very, very likely.

MaptheSoul

This website has already been pimped a million and one times, but once more won’t hurt right?

Even if you don’t like Epik High, you should check this out because when it comes to reaching out to international fans, they are doing it right.

Everything about the site seems super user friendly, and you can tell that the guys truly care about interacting with the fans. Their blogs and videos are absolutely hilarious.

Alsjdflkjdl, I don’t even listen to Epik High that much, but I’m so tempted to get this album. I admire what they are doing, and I think it’s awesome that they are sharing so much of their creative process with the world.

But just barely… LOL, spring break was awesome, but too much sun and booze is not good ever, and now I feel like I need a break from my break T___T. Anyways, it was pretty tough to go so long without access to a computer, but I survived, and now I need to catch up on all sorts of things ; )

Tablo’s Fanclub Rap Just a cute clip of him messing around. In many ways, Epik High is very hardcore and deep and all that, but in many ways they are not. New album is coming out soon, so I look forward to seeming them perform again.

Lion Heart | Bolero | 言葉にできない Okay, I have no idea what this is, but wow, I wish all music shows in Japan had this kind of production value. The live orchestra is amazing. In fact, I don’t think I can ever listen to THSK sing to a prerecorded backtrack again. Seriously, live band just makes everything so epic. The set is also gorgeous as well– so classy and well put together. Um, okay, it’s probably wrong for me to gush about everything except the boys  first, but it’s like a given that THSK brings their A game. I think my favorite is their cover of SMAP’s “Lion Heart” Because my knowledge of Jpop is nonexistent, I’ve never heard the original, but THSK sounded amazing, and the harmonization was to die for. Very cool.

That’s it?!?!? Okay, no, I’ve actually missed about a billion things while I was gone. And by things, i mean SuJu things. But I so don’t have the energy to spazz on all that at the moment, so please enjoy the following picture as much as I did.

I don’t think it is physically possible for Eunhyuk and his guyliner and his silver glove got any hotter, but he should keep trying.
